The squirrels sometimes play in the tree outside of the above window. I have to keep the shutters closed, otherwise Emma would hurl herself against the window in an effort to lunge at the squirrels. Can you believe that she sits here, watching them through the slimmest opening between the shutters?

I know I already posted a pic with the same title but this one is taken from a different perspective.

Emma: At Play
I know, I know, I didn't post a pic yesterday. I won't bore you with excuses. I'm pretty sure that statistically speaking, somewhere around Day 14, people lose interest in their New Year's resolutions. Not that this is a resolution; I'm just sayin' that sooner or later, I'm gonna miss a day of posting.
Anyway, I tried to snap a picture of Emma actually playing but she became more interested in me than in her "toys". First, she went to get a Webkinz and then she rooted around in the lego bin for a few minutes and removed a few choice pieces to gnaw on. Unlike the kids, I cannot seem to get her to put her toys away when she's finished playing.

Emma: Dog Tags
When Emma first came to live with us, I bought her the cheapest dog tag I could find. Well, about a year later, it fell off her collar, the metal had completely corroded. So a few months ago, I purchased a higher-quality tag and a collar to go with. The orange tag behind the clover is her rabies tag. The two tags clanging together make an unmistakable sound and announce her presence before she enters a room.

Emma: Favorite Spot
This is Emma's favorite place to be in the winter. (In the summer I think her favorite place would be outside, sitting on the tree house steps, watching for a squirrel.) She loves to sit/lay in this spot because it is the warmest spot in the house: right in front of the heater in the kitchen. I like this photo for 3 reasons.
1. If you look closely, you can see that her fur is blowing to the left because the heat is on.
2. This is how we live. Baby spoon on the floor, kid toys (magnets) stuck to the fridge.
3. Emma is sitting up, rather than laying down. She almost always lays on the floor in front of the heater but when I came in with my camera, she sat up to check me out. (The only time she sits, rather than lays is when she has to share the space with one or more kids who also wants some heat!)

Emma: January 1
I got a new camera for Christmas and am trying to learn how to use it. What better way than to just start taking pics???
My mission for 2010 is to take a photo a day and post it here. That way I can learn how to use my camera and document my family's life and maybe learn a little about photography in the process.
I'm staring with Emma. I know, it seems wrong to start with the family dog. But she is easier to photograph because she doesn't move as much as the kids do and she never cries or complains if I take her photograph.
So for the month of January, come here for your daily dose of Emma.
